The area
Mission Bay is a man-made aquatic park of calm bay water, sandy inlets and resort grounds, quite different in feel from the open ocean beaches beside it. The hotels are individual resorts dotted around the shoreline rather than a town centre, each with its own gardens and waterfront. The adjoining beach towns give the area a casual, holiday-and-families character.
Getting around
The bay's resorts are spread around its shoreline rather than gathered on one street, so each works mainly as its own base and moving between them is not a short stroll. Bahia Resort Hotel's own site puts it one block from Mission Beach, so bay water and ocean beach sit in the same area. Downtown and La Jolla are separate trips from Mission Bay, not walks.
