The area
This is the city's original hotel district, with grand historic properties a few blocks from newer waterfront towers. Evenings centre on the Gaslamp Quarter's restaurants and bars, while the bay, the convention centre and Petco Park are all part of the same compact downtown core. It feels urban and busy rather than beachy, with the sea present as a waterfront backdrop.
Getting around
The Gaslamp, the convention centre, Petco Park and the waterfront sit in one compact core, and the hotels here describe much of it as a short walk. The Horton Grand's own site notes that the San Diego Trolley stops in front of the hotel, so downtown works well without relying on a car for the centre itself. Coronado and the beach towns are separate trips out of downtown, not walks from it.
